The ceiling of the parish church in Muehlwald, South Tyrol (1893)

Since 1809, every time Tyroleans have gone to war, it has been with the blessing of the sacred heart of Jesus. In each year of crisis (1848, 1866, 1914) as well as in the memorial year 1984, the Province of Tyrol officially renewed its vows to the sacred heart.
Whether as defenders of their homeland or aggressors on foreign territory, Tyrolean soldiers waged war with the Freedom Fighters as their role models, secure in the belief that God was on their side.
